Overview of the Position:
The Medication Access Technician at HopeHealth is responsible for efficiently completing all prior authorizations required on eligible prescriptions sent to HopeHealth Pharmacy and processing Patient Assistance Program applications on behalf of patients. The Medication Access Technician will also assist the Clinical Pharmacy Department with various clerical tasks, special projects and initiatives as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Licensed Pharmacy Technician or Certified Medical Assistant.*
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a retail pharmacy or clinical setting.
Required Skills / Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications.
Preferred Skills / Abilities:
- Mastery of pharmacy billing software and adjudication systems.
- Proficiency in gleaning relevant information from an electronic medical record.
- Experience with insurance prior authorization processes and procedures.
- Familiarity with insurance formularies and medication coverage guidelines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Essential Job Functions:
- Assess most appropriate pathway for medication access to maximize patient benefit and minimize cost
- Process and track prior authorizations for prescriptions sent to any HopeHealth Pharmacy when there is sufficient information available for prior authorization submission
- Assist patients with enrollment in manufacturer assistance programs
- Coordinate copay assistance and financial support programs
- Maintain knowledge of available assistance resources
- Communicate with patients, providers, payers, and manufacturers
- Assist the Clinical Pharmacy Department with clerical tasks, such as data entry, report generation, documentation management and patient outreach calls.
- All other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Speaking: Must be
able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone. Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and
computer screens.
Other: Requires occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10
pounds unassisted in normal daily activities and up to 30 lbs. for other required work
activities. Additionally, requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements
(especially if keyboarding and writing), standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, with some
lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
*If the successful candidate does not have a pharmacy technician license upon hire, it will be required to obtain a license as a registered technician within two weeks of hire before the candidate can begin work.
