An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled Registered Nurse with Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit experience at a well-established 300-bed acute care hospital in Shawnee, KS. This contract position offers 36 hours per week on 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730), specifically designed for nurses with a strong critical care background.
Responsibilities include managing patients in the Progressive Care Unit with critical care expertise, supporting multiple inpatient units including Med/Surg, Med/Tele, Acute/Tele, ICU, and the Emergency Department. As part of the role, you will independently handle complex care interventions such as CRRT, Bipaps, chest tube management, PICC line care, drawing your own labs, calling consults, and participating confidently in codes. The position requires adaptability and critical thinking to float effectively across diverse units.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Minimum 2 years recent experience in Critical Care or Intensive Care Unit settings
- Comfort and proficiency with critical care skills including CRRT, Bipaps, chest tubes, and PICCs
- Experience independently drawing labs, managing codes, and handling consults
- Valid Kansas RN or Compact RN license
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications
- Prior experience floating to various hospital units strongly preferred
Schedule and Commitments:
- 36 hours per week, 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730)
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday shifts including either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Years Eve or Day
- No on-call responsibilities
Orientation and Onboarding:
- Comprehensive orientation starts with an 8-hour session at the main campus, followed by multi-day training at Olathe campus and virtual EPIC EMR training
- Facility utilizes EPIC electronic medical records
- This is a nicotine-free facility
