Job Title: Medical Coder
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Pay: $25/hour+ (Depends on Experience)
Employment Type: Ongoing Temporary with Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
Position Summary
A specialty surgical practice is seeking an experienced Medical Coder to support its vascular surgery team. This role is responsible for reviewing detailed clinical documentation and assigning accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for vascular procedures, diagnostic studies, and related encounters. The Medical Coder plays a key role in ensuring coding accuracy, compliance with payer and regulatory guidelines, and the integrity of the revenue cycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Review operative reports, clinical documentation, imaging studies, and diagnostic results to assign accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for vascular surgery services.
- Ensure all coding meets CMS regulations, NCCI edits, payer-specific rules, and internal compliance standards.
- Communicate with providers to clarify documentation, request missing details, and confirm medical necessity.
- Code split/shared visits, add-on procedures, vascular ultrasounds, and endovascular interventions such as stent placement, angioplasty, atherectomy, and EVLT.
- Enter codes into the EHR/billing platform and verify that documentation fully supports all submitted codes.
- Collaborate with billing and authorization teams to resolve denials, claim edits, and coding-related discrepancies.
- Assist with internal audits, compliance checks, and workflow improvements focused on documentation and coding accuracy.
- Stay current on updates to CPT/ICD coding, CMS rules, payer requirements, and vascular-specific coding guidelines.
- Participate in provider education related to documentation requirements, including diagnostic angiography, IVUS, medical necessity, and procedural detail.
Qualifications
- Active certification such as CPC, CCS, or equivalent is required.
- 2–5 years of medical coding experience, ideally within vascular surgery, interventional radiology, or another surgical specialty.
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, NCCI edits, and CMS regulatory guidelines.
- Ability to interpret operative reports, diagnostic results, and imaging documentation.
- Proficiency with EHR/EMR systems and coding/billing software.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, analytical thinking, and communication skills for effective collaboration with providers and staff.
Preferred Skills
- Experience coding vascular ultrasound or cardiovascular procedures.
- Familiarity with payer-specific rules for endovascular and office-based vascular services.
- Understanding of revenue cycle processes, denials management, and documentation compliance programs.
