As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping individualized education by providing specialized instruction and advocacy to students with visual impairments. You'll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and families, ensuring each learner receives the support they need.
Required Qualifications:
- Valid VI (Visually Impaired) Teacher License for Massachusetts
- Active MA Department of Education (DOE) teaching license
- Successful completion of the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTELs)
- Previous experience serving K-12 students with visual impairments (preferred)
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct functional vision assessments and develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Deliver customized lessons and adapt curriculum materials to meet students’ visual needs
- Utilize assistive technology and specialized teaching techniques
- Provide consultation and resources to classroom teachers, staff, and caregivers
- Monitor student progress and participate in IEP meetings
- Create an engaging and supportive classroom environment
- Maintain thorough documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations
