Job Description

Job DescriptionPsychiatrist Position Overview at Our Organization

We are seeking a full-time Psychiatrist to join our team at the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System, specifically within the Primary Care/Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program. This role involves providing consultative assistance to primary care providers, overseeing outpatient panels with a variety of psychiatric conditions, and managing psychotropic medication. The psychiatrist will work collaboratively in integrated care environments, focusing on early intervention and the prevention of behavioral health issues among veterans.

The VA New York Harbor Healthcare System encompasses multiple sites, including a significant medical facility in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the St. Albans campus in Queens, and two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). This system is recognized as an academic institution with active teaching and research initiatives.

Our Manhattan campus, affiliated with a prestigious medical school, is looking to hire a full-time Psychiatrist for the Primary Care/Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program.

Key Responsibilities:

The PCMHI program represents our approach to merging mental and behavioral health care within medical settings that are co-located and collaborative with primary care teams. The focus is on early intervention and prevention for mild to moderate behavioral health issues, while also facilitating the identification and referral of veterans to specialized mental health services when needed. PCMHI services include collaborative care providers and Mental Health Collaborative Care Managers who deliver ongoing support and treatment management, ensuring veterans receive tailored care. The psychiatrist's role includes providing consultative support to primary care providers, advising them on the use of psychotropic medications as part of the VA's stepped mental health care model. Additionally, while remaining fully integrated within the Primary Care clinic, the psychiatrist will manage a panel of outpatients from the Mental Health Clinic, addressing a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders primarily through medication management.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

This position qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers student loan repayment assistance. Approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years) apply.
