Job Description

Job Title: Clinical Therapist

Reports To: Clinical Director

Supervised By: Clinical Director

Supervises: None

Position Purpose:

The Clinical Therapist is responsible for performing client care activities as directed by the attending physician, Medical Director, and Clinical Director. Provides group therapy as ordered by the Clinical Director. Collaborates with the Treatment Team in formulating the Individualized Treatment Plan and assists in coordinating discharge planning.




Position Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a health-related field. Knowledge of Joint Commission requirements preferred.


  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a chemical dependency or psychiatric setting.


  • Licensure/Certification:
  • Licensed by the State, CPR certification required.


  • Knowledge and Training Required at Time of Hire:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of the discipline
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication and written skills
  • Knowledge of state and federal statutes regarding client confidentiality laws
  • Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies
  • Knowledge of Workplace Violence

Specific Areas of Responsibility:

  • Participate actively in Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan meetings
  • Share pertinent information from clients' families or others with the team
  • Attend daily and weekly staff meetings as scheduled
  • Evaluate the impact of therapeutic interventions
  • Facilitate group therapy
  • Perform individual therapy with client/family
  • Document client progress/regress and interventions in medical records
  • Recognize and assist in psychiatric crisis situations and provide intervention
  • Assist in medical emergencies as needed
  • Communicate effectively with clients, staff, and physicians
  • Attend and participate in weekly Program Staff meetings
  • Adhere to all agency policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Be sensitive to cultural issues of patients
  • Report suicidality/homicide appropriately
  • Demonstrate competency and understanding of addiction
  • Respond to and report trauma-related issues
  • Respond to and report dual-diagnosis issues
  • Adhere to mandatory reporting requirements for abuse and neglect
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics
