Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) / Tumor Registrar for a remote contract opportunity. This role is responsible for the accurate collection, analysis, and reporting of cancer data in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, registry experience, and proficiency with data management systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, abstract, and code cancer data in accordance with national and state registry standards.
- Maintain accuracy and integrity of cancer registry databases.
- Perform case-finding, follow-up, and quality assurance reviews.
- Ensure compliance with cancer program requirements and reporting guidelines.
- Collaborate with physicians, clinical staff, and administrative teams to validate data.
- Utilize EMR systems (including EPIC) to review patient records and extract required data.
- Generate reports for internal review, accreditation, and regulatory submissions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification (required)
- Associate’s degree or equivalent (minimum 60 college-level credits)
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in a Cancer Registry
- At least two (2) years of experience using computer software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet-based systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote environment
Technical Requirements
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EPIC preferred)
- Skilled in data abstraction, coding standards, and registry software
- Strong knowledge of oncology terminology and staging systems
Additional Information
- This is a remote, day-shift position (8-hour schedule).
- State nursing license not required for this role.
- No holiday coverage required.
- Candidates must be W-2 employees of their respective agency (1099 contractors not accepted).
