Job Description

The 1st Shift Machine Operator in the Grinding Department operates manual and automated equipment to grind and polish wires used in medical applications. This role focuses on precise machine operation, measurement, and documentation in a regulated production environment. You will work primarily on your feet at machine stations, ensuring parts meet strict dimensional tolerances and quality standards while following detailed work instructions and established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operate manual and automated grinding and buffing machines to grind and polish wires for medical applications.
  • Feed wires into buffing machines and monitor the process to ensure consistent quality and output.
  • Use an automatic measuring machine to verify that parts are within specified tolerances, responding appropriately when the system indicates an out-of-tolerance condition.
  • Notify a technician when machines require adjustment or when measurements fall outside acceptable limits.
  • Perform visual inspections of parts to identify defects or irregularities.
  • Measure parts using micrometers and calipers to confirm proper dimensions and adherence to specifications.
  • Follow written work instructions and standard operating procedures accurately and consistently.
  • Complete required production and quality documentation in a clear and accurate manner.

Why Work Here?

You will join a growing, highly stable organization that has expanded its facility and continues to bring in new business. The company has never had a layoff, even through multiple recessions, offering a strong sense of security and consistent workflow. The work environment is modern, clean, and well-organized, with a beautiful building constructed in recent years. You can look forward to clear opportunities for advancement, as promotion from within is a core focus and the goal is to bring people on as permanent employees within about six months. Once hired on, you receive excellent benefits from day one, including eligibility for profit sharing that has consistently paid out when company goals are met, as well as a 401(k) with a 6% match and tuition reimbursement to support your long-term growth. The culture values employees, provides a supportive environment, and even allows the use of headphones once fully trained, helping you stay focused and comfortable throughout your shift.

Work Environment

This role is based on the production floor in a medically regulated manufacturing environment that does not require clean room attire for this department. The facility is modern, very organized, well lit, and kept clean, with the building constructed only a few years ago. Work in this specific role is primarily standing at machine stations, with floor mats provided for comfort, although some related areas in the facility may involve sitting at times. You will work around larger but well-guarded machines, and you must be comfortable following safety procedures and demonstrating good mechanical aptitude. The parts you handle are typically thin medical coils and small components that require fine motor skills and careful attention to detail. The facility includes a spacious, well-equipped break room with multiple vending machines, refrigerators, and microwaves. This is a 1st shift position, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule in a stable, professional production environment.
