Lead evening emergency operations at a 285+ bed Level II Trauma Center in Independence, Missouri, featuring state-of-the-art equipment and comprehensive clinical services. This Emergency Room Manager role oversees a high-volume 64-bed emergency department serving 63,000 visits annually (180 patients daily), managing paramedics, secretaries, and technicians. The facility provides 24/7 emergency services with accredited Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center, Level III NICU, orthopedic services, cancer care, and women's services. The evening shift (4PM-midnight) with rotating on-call coverage offers work-life balance while maintaining operational excellence. Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and management for emergency services during evening operations, ensuring high-quality patient care across the care continuum.
- Direct clinical, financial, environmental, and employee-related functions of the emergency department within budgetary parameters.
- Serve as professional role model, clinical resource, and liaison with medical staff to support seamless care delivery.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures that define scope of service and guide emergency operations.
- Coordinate and integrate services within the department and with other hospital departments to optimize patient throughput and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, CMS, and state standards.
- Recommend sufficient qualified staffing levels and ensure competence of team members to meet patient care needs.
- Hire, orient, train, and evaluate new staff while providing ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Oversee disciplinary processes and personnel actions in accordance with human resource policies.
- Conduct performance evaluations and implement corrective actions to maintain departmental excellence.
- Manage high-volume trauma operations, treating Level II trauma patients and Level I trauma overflow due to regional location.
- Provide ongoing communication and updates to staff regarding departmental and organizational initiatives.
- Monitor quality metrics, patient satisfaction, and operational benchmarks to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate Degree in Nursing or Registered Nurse Diploma from accredited program
- Current Missouri RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
- Minimum 2 years of recent (within last year) acute care Emergency Department Charge RN experience with strong ED background
- BLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required within 30 days of hire
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required within 90 days of hire
- ENPC (Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course) required within 1 year of hire
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required within 1 year of hire
- Strong leadership, communication, and operational management skills
- Availability for evening shift (4PM-midnight) Monday-Friday with rotating on-call every 3 weeks
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Emergency nursing certification (CEN)
- Previous ED management or leadership experience
- Experience in high-volume Level II Trauma environments
