Dental Assistant

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and professional Dental Assistant to join our dental team. The ideal candidate is committed to providing exceptional patient care, creating a positive patient experience, and supporting clinical excellence. This individual must possess strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a pleasant chairside manner that helps patients feel comfortable and confident throughout their treatment.

The Dental Assistant works closely with doctors, hygienists, and administrative team members to ensure efficient patient flow, outstanding clinical outcomes, and a welcoming environment for every patient.

Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Prepare treatment rooms and instruments for patient procedures.
  • Assist the dentist during a wide variety of restorative, surgical, and preventive procedures.
  • Take and process dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations. Certification in Dental Assistant Radiology is a requirement.
  • Perform chairside assisting using four-handed dentistry techniques.
  • Prepare dental materials, instruments, and equipment required for treatment.
  • Maintain proper infection control and sterilization procedures.
  • Ensure treatment rooms are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
  • Document clinical notes and treatment information accurately.
  • Educate patients on post-operative instructions and oral health recommendations.
  • Support the dentist in delivering efficient, high-quality patient care.

Patient Care

  • Greet patients warmly and establish rapport.
  • Demonstrate a pleasant, reassuring, and professional chairside manner.
  • Help alleviate patient anxiety through compassionate communication.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Create a positive and welcoming experience for patients of all ages.

Team Responsibilities

  • Collaborate effectively with doctors, hygienists, and administrative staff.
  • Assist with daily office operations as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Contribute to a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork and patient care.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current Dental Assistant certification/licensure as required by the State of South Dakota.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a Dental Assistant in a dental office.
  • Current radiography certification.
  • Strong understanding of dental procedures, terminology, and infection control protocols.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to provide professional references from previous employers or supervisors.

Preferred

  • Experience with digital radiography and intraoral scanning technology.
  • Experience with dental practice management software.
  • Expanded Functions certification, if applicable.
  • Experience assisting in multiple dental specialties.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to assist with dental procedures and equipment.
