Job DescriptionPosition Overview

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) delivers direct rehabilitative care in speech therapy to patients referred by physicians, adhering to all relevant laws, regulations, and organizational standards.

Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited speech therapy program (minimum MS or MA in SLP).
  • ASHA certification (CCC) is required, or eligibility for a 9-month Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) to obtain ASHA certification and meet credentialing criteria. Once obtained, ASHA credentials must be maintained.
  • Must hold a current registration or license in the relevant state, maintaining an active license in good standing throughout employment.
  • Preferred: At least one year of experience in a post-acute care or similar environment.
  • CPR certification is required upon hire or must be obtained during orientation, and it must remain current throughout employment.

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Engage in community health initiatives and projects as appropriate.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email communication.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and support departments to effectively address patient needs.
  • Exhibit proper body mechanics at all times.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Possess knowledge of practices, procedures, and regulations governing operations in a post-acute care setting.
  • Implement and interpret departmental programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform competently in all areas, including patient rights, safety, and sanitation.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, vendors, and others.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all proprietary and sensitive information.
  • Understand and adhere to organizational policies, including those related to harassment and compliance.
  • Exhibit integrity and professionalism by following the organization's Code of Conduct and completing required compliance training.

Essential Functions

  • Establish, evaluate, and adjust realistic, measurable, and functional goals.
  • (For SLP CCC) Oversee and assess care provided by SLP CFYs.
  • (For SLP CFY) Follow speech therapy treatment plans under the supervision of an SLP CCC, in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
  • Document patient information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Utilize therapy software effectively and accurately.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude towards patients.
  • Assist in the safe evacuation of patients when necessary.
  • Demonstrate reliable and consistent attendance.
  • Employ reasoning skills and sound judgment in all situations.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Engage in physical activities such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, reaching, and moving intermittently during work hours.
  • Read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language proficiently.
