Job Title: Utility Operator [Floating]

Location: Houston, TX
Salary: $26 / Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY: The Utility Operator is a floating, cross-trained role that supports both Regen Plant operations and Field Service needs. This position is designed for a hands-on operator who can travel on short notice, jump into priority work, and help keep mobile assets and plant production moving. The Utility Operator will assist with green tagging and trailer readiness, perform field service technician duties (repairs, troubleshooting, mobilizations/demobilizations, customer site support), and learn the resin regeneration workflow to provide additional capacity at the Regen Plant as needed. Travel is mandatory and may be required with little notice, including nights/weekends as business needs dictate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Service Support (Primary)

  • Respond to dispatch requests and travel at a moment’s notice to support customer jobs, emergencies, and planned service work.
  • Perform duties consistent with a Field Service Technician, including:
    • Equipment inspection, troubleshooting, and repair for Mobile RO and Mobile DI systems
    • Hose/piping connections, leak checks, valve replacements, cartridge filter changes, basic instrumentation checks, and general mechanical work
    • Startup/shutdown support, operational checks, and field documentation
    • Assisting with MOB/DMOB activities (mobilization and demobilization)
  • Support green tagging readiness activities:
    • Re-deployment inspections and verification
    • Minor to moderate repairs and corrective actions
    • Readiness documentation and checklists (as required)
    • Maintain professional customer communication on-site and escalate issues promptly to the Field Service Manager.

Regen Plant Support (Secondary / As Needed)

  • Learn and support the Regen Plant workflow and resin regeneration process, including:
    • Assisting with material handling, staging, and housekeeping
    • Supporting resin transfers, rinses, and process preparation steps (under supervision and training)
    • Helping to execute plant checklists and documenting work performed
  • Provide plant labor support during peak demand periods or when field workload is low.

Safety, Quality, and Documentation

  • Follow all EHS/Safety procedures, including PPE requirements, chemical handling rules, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Complete required documentation: service reports, checklists, asset readiness forms, and internal notes.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards in the field, shop, and plant.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training
  • Relevant certifications in water treatment, industrial operations, or chemical handling are a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize
  • Proficiency in using plant control systems and basic computer systems
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in resin regeneration, water treatment, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a plant or industrial environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of plant controls systems and utilities.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining resin regeneration equipment.
  • Strong understanding of chemical handling and water treatment processes.
  • Ability to work 40-60 hours per week if required including weekends.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Requires working in industrial and plant environments with exposure to chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Physical demands include standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in confined spaces or elevated areas.
  • May require working overtime, weekends, or holidays to meet operational demands.
