We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent specializing in outside services for a leading provider in the direct mail and print production industry. This role focuses on sourcing print-related purchases to minimize total cost of ownership, reduce risk, optimize supplier performance, and support business objectives. As a Purchasing Agent, you will manage sourcing and procurement for outside print services, ensuring quality, timeliness, and cost efficiency. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with cross-functional leaders to understand and execute category requirements.
- Requesting and evaluating quotes, reviewing estimates, and finalizing project pricing.
- Building and maintaining strategic supplier relationships, including selection, negotiation, and performance evaluation.
- Researching alternative products and suppliers as needed.
- Creating purchase orders in ERP systems and managing outsourced services for compliance and quality.
- Acting as a subject matter expert for non-standard products and supporting internal teams.
- Resolving issues quickly and maintaining accurate transaction records.
- Mentoring team members and providing backup support for other purchasing agents.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- 7+ years of experience in outside services within direct mail, lettershop, print, or fulfillment.
- Bachelors degree in a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of direct mail workflow, envelope manufacturing, conventional and digital printing, finishing processes, and lettershop operations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using ERP systems for purchasing.
Preferred:
- Experience mentoring or training team members.
- Familiarity with Monarch ERP system.
- Proven ability to research and implement alternative sourcing strategies.
