The RN-Medical Stepdown position at our facility focuses on delivering essential care to critically ill medical patients within a dedicated 22-bed unit. Key responsibilities encompass patient evaluations, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring patient confidentiality while adhering to hospital protocols. This role requires robust clinical expertise, appropriate nursing certifications, and the physical endurance necessary for routine patient care activities.

This role employs the nursing process to deliver comprehensive patient care. The nurse is accountable for the quality of care provided to their assigned patients and assesses the overall effectiveness of care delivered by other caregivers. Coordination of patient care with various departments is essential, as is the maintenance of patient rights and confidentiality. Responsibilities are carried out in alignment with our mission, values, and service standards.

Position Details:

We are seeking both experienced and newly graduated RNs and LPNs for our Medical Stepdown Unit. This specialized unit caters to acutely ill medical patients and consists of 22 beds. The patient demographic includes those requiring Bipaps, High Flow Oxygen, Tracheostomies, Ventilated Tracheostomies, as well as cases of Respiratory Failure, Gastrointestinal Bleeds, Alcohol Withdrawal, Drug Overdose, Severe Sepsis, and End of Life Care. This unit demands exceptional critical thinking and rapid decision-making abilities.

  • Patient-to-Nurse Ratio: 3-4 patients with technical support
  • Collaboration: Close partnership with Pulmonologists and 24/7 leadership support
  • Teamwork: Daily interaction with Care Management Teams, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dieticians, and Pharmacists
  • Shifts: Opportunities available for both day and night shifts

Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of a nursing program (Associate's degree, Diploma, or BSN)
  • Licensure: Responsible for obtaining and maintaining a current RN license in the state of employment, adhering to all state nursing board requirements
  • Experience: Relevant experience in nursing is preferred
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or completion of the course within 30 days of hire
    • Additional certifications may be required based on the specific unit, including but not limited to:
      • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
      • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
      • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
      • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
      • CPHON (Certified Pediatric/Hematology/Oncology Nurse)
      • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
      • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
      • PEARS (Pediatric Assessment Recognition and Stabilization)
      • S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, And Emotional Support)
      • C-EFM (Fetal Monitor Certification)
      • Other unit-specific certifications as necessary

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to regularly push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 lbs
  • Prolonged standing and walking required during each shift
  • Capability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat as part of job duties
