MABVI is seeking a dedicated Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) to join our team. This role supports individuals with visual impairments across the Greater Boston area by providing assessments, direct instruction, and caregiver consultation. Services are community-based and designed to promote independence, safety, and quality of life.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct O&M and low vision assessments.
  • Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility training.
  • Teach safe travel skills in home, school, work, and community environments.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, support teams, and agencies.
  • Provide O&M-related training and consultation to staff and families.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with HIPAA and agency standards.
  • Travel to various sites across the Metro Boston region.
  • Assist in supervising Orientation and Mobility Interns.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and report-writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule
  • Problem-solving skills and sound judgment in diverse settings
  • Comfortable using electronic databases and recordkeeping systems

Qualifications:

  • ACVREP Certification in Orientation and Mobility required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • 2+ years of O&M experience preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with multiple disabilities preferred
