The Paramount Hotel Seattle is seeking an experienced, hands-on, and service-driven General Maintenance Engineer to support the daily maintenance and operation of our hotel and help deliver an exceptional guest experience at one of downtown Seattle's premier boutique hotels.

Position Overview

Under the general guidance and supervision of the Engineering Manager, the Engineering Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and general maintenance throughout the hotel.

This role supports the safe and efficient operation of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and hotel systems while ensuring a positive guest experience. The Engineering Technician responds to work orders, guest requests, and emergency maintenance situations while maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, and professionalism.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, service-oriented, dependable, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced hospitality environment.


Requirements:

Essential Responsibilities

· Perform routine maintenance and repairs in guest rooms, public spaces, meeting rooms, offices, and back-of-house areas

· Respond promptly to guest service requests and maintenance work orders

· Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance issues

· Complete preventative maintenance assignments according to established schedules

· Assist with maintenance and operation of hotel systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, laundry, kitchen, and mechanical equipment

· Conduct routine inspections of guestrooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems to identify maintenance needs

· Maintain accurate records of work performed, preventative maintenance activities, and completed work orders

· Support room renovation projects, capital improvements, and facility upgrades as assigned

· Monitor and maintain lighting systems throughout the hotel

· Assist with furniture repairs, door hardware repairs, wall touch-up painting, and cosmetic maintenance projects

· Maintain engineering tools, equipment, workspaces, and storage areas in a clean and organized manner

· Coordinate with Housekeeping and Front Office teams to minimize guest disruption during maintenance activities

· Assist with vendor access and contractor projects as directed

· Respond to emergency situations including power outages, plumbing issues, equipment failures, and life safety incidents

· Participate in snow removal, exterior maintenance, and seasonal property projects as needed

· Follow all OSHA, safety, and hotel operational standards

· Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

· Previous hotel maintenance, facilities maintenance, apartment maintenance, or commercial building maintenance experience preferred

· Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance

· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

· Strong organizational and time-management skills

· Excellent guest service and communication skills

· Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work orders effectively

· Ability to maintain professionalism when interacting with guests, team members, and vendors

· Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals, safety procedures, and technical instructions

· Ability to use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and maintenance machinery safely

· Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and occasional emergency call-back situations

· Experience with hotel maintenance tracking systems preferred

Education and Experience:

· High School Diploma or GED required

· Trade school, vocational training, or technical certifications preferred

· Minimum 2 years of maintenance experience preferred

· Hotel engineering experience strongly preferred

· HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related trade certifications are a plus

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and work for extended periods

· Ability to safely use ladders and maintenance equipment

· Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance

· Comfortable working in guestrooms, mechanical rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and outdoor environments

· Ability to safely operate tools, machinery, and maintenance equipment

Working Conditions:

· Primarily indoor hotel environment including guestrooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, mechanical rooms, and rooftops

· Exposure to varying temperatures, cleaning chemicals, electrical equipment, mechanical systems, and loud machinery

· Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility, multitasking, and occasional emergency response

· Frequent interaction with guests, team members, vendors, and contractors
