Who We Are
MI Poder is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, non-partisan social welfare and civic engagement organization serving the Latinx population in Michigan. Our purpose is to strengthen the Michigan Latinx voice and leadership capacity to mobilize our constituents and increase participation in the democratic process. We develop and advocate for legislation, regulations, and government programs to improve the Michigan Latinx community’s opportunities, growth, and investment.
What We Need
MI Poder is currently seeking a State Organizing Director. This person will lead MI Poder’s base building, issue, and electoral campaigns, and supervise organizers in MI Poder’s impact regions. The person in this position also develops and conducts training, leadership development, and campaigns that are available to all of MI Poder’s organizers and network partners. During municipal and statewide elections this position plays a major role in the success of MI Poder’s political ambitions of engaging and mobilizing Michigan Latinx voters. The State Organizing Director will help shape the strategy to increase Latinx voter turnout and define accountability metrics of voter engagement (including voter registration, voter education, get-out-the-vote, and voter protection efforts) during each election cycle. This position will collaborate closely with departmental leaders to design effective and engaging campaigns educating and empowering Michigan Latinx voters.
This position requires occasional travel to all MI Poder service areas during election seasons and is otherwise fully remote, with minimal travel for meetings.
Responsibilities of the State Organizing Director include:
- Lead local and statewide issue-based mobilization and power-building efforts, base building, actions and campaigns
- Design and implement statewide field programs for Latinx voter engagement, turnout, and issue education
- Serve on MI Poder Leadership Team, advising the ED on strategy and collaboration
- Hire, supervise, and align the Organizing Team; oversee field staff and volunteers building trust, cohesion, and alignment in all departmental efforts.
- Collaborate with local leadership
- Develop and deliver training for staff, volunteers, and community leaders (leadership, capacity building, data best practices)
- Build and maintain partnerships with local community organizations to enhance their organizing and electoral capacity
Who You Are

- Requires English/Spanish bilingualism for community/volunteer engagement
- A deep interest in strengthening the Michigan Latinx voice to build community power and greater social and civic opportunities
- Knowledge of and demonstrated cultural competency of the Michigan Latinx community
- Two cycles of political/campaign field work (such as voter persuasion, early-voting, and get-out-the-vote campaigns) or comparable political or advocacy experience required.
- Preference for experience managing paid campaign staff
- Proven ability to strategize and implement successful programs/projects
- Preference for strategic experience to be within electoral or advocacy work
- Skilled in VAN/MiniVan and voter engagement software
- Leads and motivates diverse stakeholders, fostering cooperation and accountability
- Organizes and maintains effective project systems and processes
- Makes assertive, confident decisions, guiding initiatives through intentional collaboration with partners
- Works independently to achieve goals with minimal oversight
- Excellent critical and strategic thinking skills
- Communicates effectively, adapting to audience needs
- Willingness to travel statewide to MI Poder service areas, including overnights: Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Holland, Pontiac, Flint, Detroit, and Ann Arbor

What We Offer
The salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000 annually, dependent on experience. MI Poder offers a competitive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, prescription insurance; disability and life insurance; access to 401k and generous PTO.
