Job Title: Marketing & Communications Specialist

Department: Development

Supervisor: Director of External Affairs

Location: Washington, DC locations.

Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly

Synopsis: The Marketing & Communications Specialist supports the execution of LCDP’s marketing and communications efforts, with a strong focus on audience growth through paid and organic marketing channels. This role is responsible for coordinating and executing campaigns that support patient acquisition, donor acquisition, and community engagement, while ensuring consistent, high-quality content across platforms.

This is a hands-on, execution-oriented role that works closely with the Director of External Affairs and the Donor Communications & Engagement Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing & Audience Growth

  • Support and execute paid marketing efforts designed to attract new patients and new donors (e.g., digital ads, promoted content, list-building campaigns)
  • Assist with campaign setup, coordination, and tracking in partnership with external vendors or platforms
  • Support list growth and audience acquisition across email and digital channels
  • Track basic performance metrics and flag trends or issues

Content & Communications Execution

  • Draft, edit, and coordinate marketing and communications content in English and Spanish
  • Produce content for digital channels, including email, website updates, and social media
  • Provide light graphic design and formatting support using existing templates and brand guidelines

Social Media & Editorial Calendar

  • Manage day-to-day social media scheduling and posting
  • Support growth of social media audiences through consistent execution and campaign alignment
  • Maintain and manage the department-wide editorial and communications calendar
  • Coordinate timelines and approvals across teams

Project Coordination & Operations

  • Coordinate marketing and communications projects from start to finish
  • Track deliverables and follow up to ensure deadlines are met
  • Support administrative needs related to marketing and communications projects

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field required. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications, preferably in a healthcare, nonprofit, public health, or mission-driven organization.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting audience growth initiatives, including patient acquisition, donor engagement, or community outreach campaigns.
  • Working knowledge of paid digital marketing strategies, including social media advertising, search engine marketing (SEM), display advertising, and email list-building campaigns.
  • Experience coordinating with external vendors, agencies, or platform representatives to execute and optimize campaigns.
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) systems and email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar tools).
  • Basic proficiency in content management systems (CMS) for website updates.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish (professional fluency required).
  • Ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences, including patients, donors, community partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience drafting content for digital platforms, including email campaigns, websites, and social media channels.
  • Proficiency in light graphic design and content formatting using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to follow established brand guidelines and templates to produce visually consistent materials.
  • Experience adapting creative assets for multiple digital platforms.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable, with strong follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a small, mission-driven team.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience working in a federally funded, community-based, or highly regulated environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience communicating with diverse, multilingual, and underserved communities preferred.
