Position SummaryThe Study Hall/Detention Specialist at Merit Preparatory Academy provides supervision and support for students assigned to study hall or detention while fostering an environment that reflects the school's mission of developing leaders through academic excellence, personal responsibility, service, and strong character. This position promotes student accountability, encourages productive use of time, and helps students make positive choices that contribute to a safe and respectful school culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during assigned study hall and detention periods while maintaining a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.
  • Foster a culture of respect, responsibility, and accountability consistent with Merit Preparatory Academy's mission and core values.
  • Ensure students remain engaged in academic work, reading, or other approved educational activities during study hall.
  • Implement school discipline procedures consistently, fairly, and respectfully.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and documentation of student behavior and detention assignments.
  • Communicate student concerns, behavioral issues, or notable successes to school administrators, teachers, and counselors as appropriate.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with students while maintaining clear behavioral expectations and appropriate boundaries.
  • Assist students in developing habits of responsibility, self-discipline, and personal accountability.
  • Monitor the classroom to minimize distractions and maximize productive use of student time.
  • Assist with before-school, lunch, or after-school detention supervision as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information in accordance with school policy and applicable privacy laws.
  • Support school-wide events and perform other duties as assigned by school administration.


Work ScheduleThis is a school-year position following the Merit Preparatory Academy calendar. Hours may include supervision before school, during lunch, after school, and other assigned periods as determined by school administration.
