Travel: Occasional travel may be required between program sites, outreach events, or trainings.
Job Summary
An OASAS-certified outpatient treatment program is seeking a compassionate and experienced Addiction Medicine Medical Director to lead clinical operations and provide patient-centered, evidence-based care for individuals with substance use disorders. This role combines direct patient care with strategic community outreach and business development to enhance service visibility and strengthen referral networks.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
- Provide clinical leadership and foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Oversee program performance metrics including patient outcomes, retention, and satisfaction.
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust medication-assisted treatment (MAT) per OASAS guidelines.
- Monitor patients for withdrawal symptoms, side effects, and medication adherence.
- Collaborate with behavioral health and counseling staff to develop individualized treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Educate patients on substance use disorders, relapse prevention, and harm reduction strategies.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and OASAS regulations, including reporting requirements.
- Participate in case conferences, quality assurance activities, and staff training.
- Stay current with best practices, emerging treatments, and regulatory updates in addiction medicine.
Community Outreach & Business Development
- Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, hospitals, treatment centers, and community agencies.
- Represent the clinic at community events, professional meetings, and outreach programs.
- Conduct educational sessions to promote clinic services and increase visibility.
- Strengthen referral pipelines through strategic networking and outreach initiatives.
Qualifications
- MD or DO with an active New York State medical license.
- Board Certification in Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry, or Internal Medicine (preferred).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in addiction medicine or a related clinical setting.
- Strong knowledge of OASAS regulations and NYS substance use treatment systems.
- Excellent communication, clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and relationship-building skills.
- Commitment to providing stigma-free, patient-centered care.
- Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply; Spanish proficiency is a plus.
