Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Critical Access Hospital in coastal Georgia, requiring 2 years of ER experience and night shift availability.

Details

  • Work setting is an acute care Critical Access Hospital (CAH) ER, currently working toward Level IV trauma designation — not a STEMI or stroke receiving center
  • 18-bed ER including 3 trauma bays, with no separate fast track area
  • General ER patient population including abdominal pain, lacerations, SOB, chest pain, stroke/CVA with TPA, DKA, sickle cell, psych, MVAs, trauma (stabilize and transfer), and send-out STEMIs
  • Averages 90 patients per day, with peak season volume reaching up to 140 patients per day
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is generally 1:4–5 depending on acuity
  • No separate holding area — ER holds are intermixed within the department and managed by ER nurses
  • Two safety rooms available for psychiatric patients; in-house security on weekends with plans for 24/7 coverage
  • Telemetry monitoring in every room except safety rooms; RNs must read and interpret their own strips
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a; weekends and holidays as needed
  • Every other weekend required; holidays rotated with permanent staff
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • No floating to other units required
  • Self-scheduling available, subject to manager approval; block scheduling permitted
  • EMR system: TruBridge Evident (T-system for ED documentation)

Requirements

  • Active RN license — GA or Compact license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS; TNCC preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
  • Experience from smaller community hospitals preferred due to higher-than-typical CAH patient volume
  • Proficiency with IV placement and critical care/ER drips required
  • Ability to multitask and perform in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot ventilators, BiPAP, and CPAP equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac monitor strips
  • ICU hold experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Located approximately 40 miles southwest of Savannah, GA, near the coast
  • ER is staffed with MDs and midlevels; charge nurse is present every shift and takes a patient assignment
  • PCTs are on shift (1 in the AM, a 2nd arriving at noon) and assist with vitals, lab draws, splinting, and general tech duties
  • Radiology is available in-house 24/7 and handles patient transport; RNs and techs share lab draw responsibilities
  • Ultrasound and vein finder available for use in the ER
  • RT is on-site 24/7 (1 RT on nights); pharmacy is in-house until 5p with a resource nurse available to mix medications after hours
  • 3-shift unit orientation provided
  • Scrub color requirement: Caribbean Blue scrubs with a matching Caribbean Blue or white scrub jacket
  • Strong emphasis on customer service and patient satisfaction
  • Travel experience is preferred but not required
  • No schedule changes will be accommodated once set
