Position Summary:
The PEM Cook position at the Peabody Essex Museum works Thursday through Monday 8 AM to 4 PM to support the PEM Cafe during normal operating hours. He/she must exhibit a positive attitude and adhere to all sanitation guidelines. The Cook reports directly to the Executive Chef at PEM.
This position has a starting pay of $20 per hour.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reports to job site on time and in complete and proper uniform.
Complete tasks assigned by Executive Chef and Cafe Manager, to successfully execute the food service for the cafe. The cook must adhere to the service guidelines and company policies.
Job Overview:
Independently performs moderately difficult tasks in preparing small quantities of quickly prepared food such as salads, sandwiches / paninis, bakery items, parfaits and other similar items.
General Responsibilities:
• Prepares and cooks to order foods that may require short preparation time.
• May prepare food and serve customers at an a la carte station.
• Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate
standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is
provided.
• Reads food order or receives verbal instructions on food requested by customer
and prepares and cooks food according to instructions.
• Always provides the highest quality of service to customers and co-workers.
• Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning,
cooking, tasting, carving and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and
other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments.
• Prepares foods under direct supervision or instruction by operating a variety of
kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting,
and shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry, or
fish for culinary use.
• May clean and sanitize workstations and equipment and must follow all Gourmet Caterers, client, and regulatory rules and procedures.
• Attends all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training.
• Complies with all HACCP policies and procedures.
• Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
• Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
• May receive inventory, move and lift foodstuffs and supplies, and prepare meals
for customers requiring special diets.
• May produce some batch goods using basic cooking techniques.
Qualifications:
The candidate must exhibit exceptional customer service skills and extreme attention to detail. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays.
This job requires the ability to perform the following:
Walking or standing for extended periods of time
Carrying or lifting items up to 50lbs
Bending, stooping and kneeling
Weekend availability is a must. Hours are about 9:00AM to 5:00PM
Conditions of Employment:
The Cook position is an “Full-Time” position with 35 to 40 hours of work available per week. when the business requires. Employees are required to find their own transportation to and from work. Gourmet Caterers adheres to a policy of employment-at-will which allows either party to terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason, with or without cause or notice.
