JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Housing Advocate will perform various duties relating to working with poverty and vulnerable populations. This team member will work in a homeless resource system that provides emergency shelter and resources to over 250 individuals nightly. Job Duties

  1. Provide quality customer service to our guests, who may be in need of resources in addition to a warm bed for the night.
  2. Monitor and help regulate activities at the Resource Center, ensuring rules and procedures are followed by both staff and guests.
  3. Provide clear and specific information and instruct guests of Resource Center rules/procedures in a kind, compassionate, and trauma-informed way.
  4. Assist in maintaining a clean and safe facility, identifying special needs and referring needs to supervisor.
  5. Assist in resolving conflicts that may arise among guests.
  6. Delegate tasks in a fair manner to ensure needs of facility are met. This can include Incident Reports; rounds and tracking; daily counts; intake support and other duties as necessary.
  7. Write incident reports where appropriate, maintain records of guest stays, and maintain accurate shelter documentation.
  8. Answer phones, take messages and respond to the public.
  9. Provide occasional crisis intervention and emergency interface with community resources such as EMS and law enforcement.
  10. Provide assistance and support to the Shift Supervisor and act as lead staff in the absence of the Supervisor including providing feedback and coaching to team members.
  11. Operate as part of a team that strives to serve the homeless in our community.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required

Required Skills and Abilities

  2. Excellent customer service skills.
  3. Able to communicate effectively and handle difficult situations with professionalism, compassion and from a Trauma-Informed Care perspective.
  4. Ability to exercise proper discretion and independent judgment to make quick decisions, occasionally without immediate direction or supervision.
  5. Knowledge of internal and community resources.
  6. Flexibility, enthusiasm, and a commitment to make a difference.
  7. Ability to actively listen, empathize, and offer support to guests.
  8. Ability to work independently and use sound judgment within the Trauma-Informed framework to make decisions.
  9. Desire to inspire, motivate and support staff and guests.
  10. Understanding of the Housing Focused philosophy. Willingness to have conversations with guests about housing.
  11. Good computer skills.
  12. Willingness to accept supervision, direction, and constructive feedback.

  16. Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Physical and Equipment Requirements

  • Must be able to stand, sit and walk for at least an hour at a time.
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
