Truck Driver /Light Duty Equipment Operator (Hybrid Equipment Operator)

Starting Salary Pay: $22.90 to $25.75 per hour

Position is located at Trans Jordan Landfill located at 10473 S Bacchus Hwy, South Jordan, Utah. If you meet the following requirements, apply at Trans-Jordan Landfill, 10473 S. JOB SUMMARY & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Split Shift, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

No contract exists between Trans-Jordan Cities and its employees with respect to permanent employment, salaries, salary ranges, or employee benefits. Salary, salary ranges and benefits may change as a result of market surveys, job analysis, availability of funds, or changes in policy. Movement within the range is based upon job performance, availability of funds and policies and procedures as they are amended from time to time. All new hires are placed on a six (6) month merit probation, which may be extended for good cause.

Hybrid Equipment Operator

Summary / Objective

Under general supervision from the Executive Director and Operations Supervisors, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of light-duty equipment, large trucks (CDL Required), traffic direction of customer vehicles and litter control.

Duties / Responsibilities

Light Duty Operator & Truck Driver:

· Operates equipment at the Public Convenience Center (PCC) providing efficient and safe service to customers.

· Operation of the hook-lift trucks to haul material between various operations as well as off-site facilities.

· Operation of water truck or waterwagon to control dust on the landfill roads, tipping face, miscellaneous dirt work and dust control as required

· Operates Service Truck to fuel heavy equipment

· Operates Snow Plow and Salter to clean roads

· Operates Articulated Haul Trucks to assist in dirt moving duties

· May perform duties with the smooth drum roller

· Assists with the recovery of recyclable materials.

· Performs complete walk arounds to ensure equipment is operable and ready for use (i.e. check fluids, fire system, etc.).

· Cleans cabs, performs routine maintenance (i.e. grease, change tires, and use air compressor on radiators and loader), may assist the mechanic in maintenance and repair of assigned equipment.

· Reports mechanical problems for shop repair; field tests re­paired equipment to ensure operating efficiency.

· Performs visual and verbal inspection / verification of vehicles and solid waste to prevent the disposal of hazardous or unauthorized waste; items that may jeopardize safety and equipment; notifies management if hazardous waste is found.

· Follows standard operating procedures in handling of fuel, oil, and grease to prevent personal injury.

· Utilizes specific firefighting tech­niques in controlling and fighting refuse fires.

Traffic Control / Spotter:

· Directs and controls vehicles at the PCC area in conjunction with loader work during times when traffic flow is at a level that the employee can balance the task

· Will be assigned duties as a Spotter as needed (in the Cell and at the PCC), which may include full day shifts

· Performs duties for traffic control / waste disposal as outlined in the Landfill Site Spotter job description

Safety:

· Follows all written and non-written safety standards to ensure personal, co-worker, and customer safety

· Performs all job duties in a manner to ensure employee and customer safety

· Notifies Supervisor of potentially harmful or unsafe situations

· Wears appropriate PPE as directed

Other:

· Uses equipment, tools, and technology provided to complete tasks (i.e. radio, tablet, fast field program)

· Performs vehicle inspections (pre and post trips) with corresponding paperwork submission (fast field program)

· Responsible for proper care and maintenance of equipment, tools and vehicles assigned

· Follows policies, procedures, and directives as given by management

· Performs other job-related duties as assigned or duties in other job descriptions, as qualified

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

· Minimum High School graduate or equivalent and one (1) year experience in a landfill setting (i.e. spotter, scalehouse, truck driver) with some knowledge of Large Truck Operation or Heavy Equipment OR any equivalent combina­tion of experience and education (above HS Degree).

Special Requirements

· Must have a valid CDL Utah Driver’s License (Class B or higher) or the ability to obtain CDL within six (6) months of hire (internal promotions only) and remain insurable.

· Must possess a current UDOT Medical Card

· Must pass a Trans-Jordan Physical, Drug Screen, and Background Check

· May be called upon for emergency response

· Operation of a variety of CDL trucks and light-duty equipment, under adverse conditions, as assigned; i.e. articulated haul truck, hooklift trucks, water trucks, water wagon, front-end loader, or smooth drum compactor as as­signed

· Working knowledge of minor equipment maintenance up to and including repair

Working Conditions & Physical Attributes

· This position may include frequent lifting up to 25 lbs, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and carry 25 lbs up to 100 feet.

· This position requires that the person stand continuously and sit or walk with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, and working on irregular surfaces and uneven ground; a full range of motion in the shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, legs, and feet; and manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; visual acuity as needed to inspect loads

· Must work in extreme outside weather conditions (i.e. hot, cold, dampness, wind) with constant exposure to traffic hazards, noise, dust, fumes, grease and unsanitary conditions.

Essential Functions

· Essential functions of this position include the ability to effectively and safely perform the duties listed above in solid waste operations section for a full shift (40 hours per week in 4, 10-hour shifts). The position works outside in extreme weather conditions. The nature of these duties cannot be performed in a different location or environment.
