Job Description
Job Description
Permit Agent – Electrical Utility Projects (Michigan-Based | W2 Role)
Secure the Permits. Navigate the Agencies. Power the Project.
At Halo Land Management, we don’t just acquire land—we pave the way for progress. From rural corridors to protected lands, we’re trusted by utility companies to keep infrastructure projects moving forward with speed, accuracy, and compliance.
We’re seeking a full-time W2 Permit Agent with a strong track record of navigating the complex permitting landscape in Michigan and beyond. If you're a strategic communicator who knows how to earn approvals from tough agencies, juggle multiple deadlines, and read the fine print in regulatory frameworks—this is the role for you.
Whether you’re securing temporary workspace licenses or negotiating aviation clearances, you’ll be a key force in delivering major energy projects the right way.
???? What You’ll Do
As a Permit Agent at Halo, your job is to open the gates for construction, maintenance, and operations—and keep them open. You'll work closely with utility clients, jurisdictional bodies, and internal stakeholders to secure all necessary approvals, licenses, and documentation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Communicating and negotiating with local, state, and federal agencies to secure permits for construction, access, temporary workspaces, and right-of-way use
- Serving as the face of the company in interactions with key permitting entities such as:
- Road and drain commissions
- Railroads and airport authorities
- Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
- Michigan Aeronautics Commission
- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
- U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service
- Department of Defense (DOD)
- Preparing and submitting permit applications, insurance certificates, bond postings, and regulatory forms in line with client procedures
- Reviewing and interpreting legal descriptions, site plans, and construction drawings to inform permit applications
- Tracking and managing multiple permitting timelines while ensuring all jurisdictional requirements are met
- Maintaining detailed records, correspondence, and overnight document submissions to support audits and compliance
???? What You Bring
We’re looking for a well-rounded professional who understands both the big picture and the fine print. A successful candidate will have:
- 5+ years of experience in the Right-of-Way, Permitting, or Real Estate industries
- 2+ years of dedicated experience as a Permit Agent or Zoning Specialist in the utility or infrastructure space
- Strong working knowledge of Michigan permitting agencies, state and federal land use regulations, and utility policy
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to represent clients professionally to high-level agency stakeholders
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects, jurisdictions, and timelines
- Ability to read and interpret legal descriptions, real estate documents, and technical construction drawings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and cloud-based tracking tools
???? A Day in the Life
You kick off the morning reviewing agency deadlines and checking the status of pending permit requests. After confirming insurance documentation and prepping an FAA application for an upcoming aerial line crossing, you hop on a call with the Michigan DNR to resolve a question about wetland access.
Later, you prepare a temporary workspace agreement for submission to a county road commission, confirm bond documentation has been posted, and finalize overnight shipping to a federal agency. Every permit cleared is a win—moving the project one step closer to construction.
Your day is full of nuance, deadlines, and negotiation—but you thrive in the details and love being the one who makes things happen.
