Position Summary

This is a full-time on-site role for an Estimator, located in Winslow, ME. The Estimator will be responsible for evaluating project requirements, conducting detailed quantity takeoffs, preparing cost estimates, and collaborating with project teams to develop competitive bids. The role will also involve coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing, analyzing project specifications, and ensuring all estimates are comprehensive and accurate. This position will focus on our Firestopping and Fireproofing product lines.


Essential Functions

  • Solicit and identify bid opportunities by reviewing existing projects, monitoring the Dodge report, calling/emailing GC contacts. and monitoring online resources.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings to gather details of the project.
  • Study and understand the contract documents, specifications sections, drawings, addendums, and all updates through the bidding process.
  • When possible, investigate jobsite conditions prior to bid date to understand and evaluation the site accessibility and other such items that may affect schedule/cost.
  • Perform value engineering and negotiate bids.
  • Manage multiple bids on an ongoing basis.
  • Follow up on all bid documents within SWP's system.
  • Review estimates with Management with detailed analysis, checking calculations and making corrections as necessary.
  • Review awarded contracts for accuracy and review your bid with the Project Manager assigned to the job.
  • Stay up to date in industry developments and communicate with the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Candidate Requirements

  • Ability to read and analyze blueprints.
  • Experience in the commercial construction industry with a strong knowledge of construction materials, processes and equipment.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, in engineering, construction, or similar field. 3+ years of industry experience will satisfy this requirement.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to work on a team as well as independently within scope of established guidelines and practices.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.


Additional Candidate Preferences

  • Commercial construction estimating experience.
  • Experience with estimating software such as STACK or PlanSwift.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA Life & Safety Code.
  • Knowledge and experience with CSI Division 7.
