This 523-bed acute care medical and surgical hospital in Gainesville, FL is a Joint Commission-accredited, Comprehensive Stroke Center and Accredited Chest Pain Center (ACC), with Blue Distinction designations for both Spine Surgery and Bariatric Surgery, offering comprehensive cardiovascular, oncology, orthopedic, neuroscience, and minimally invasive robotic surgery services. An opening is available for a Registered Nurse on the inpatient surgical unit.
The role. The nurse joins a 45-bed general medical/surgical unit caring for post-surgical patients who have cleared the PACU and require overnight or extended inpatient recovery. The primary patient population consists of abdominal surgery cases, so the day-to-day focus centers on wound assessment and care, post-surgical monitoring, and preparing patients and families with discharge and recovery instructions. The unit operates at a 7:1 nurse-to-patient ratio, and nurses must be comfortable managing that census while coordinating with the broader surgical care team to support safe, timely transitions through the continuum of care.
What we're looking for.
- Minimum 1 year of acute care RN experience, obtained within the last 2 years
- Active Florida RN license or approved multistate compact RN license required; compact license holders must obtain the Florida license within 60 days of relocation
- Nursing Diploma or ASN required; BSN preferred
- BLS (AHA Healthcare Provider) required prior to start date
- NIH Stroke Scale certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Schedule. Nights with rotating weekends.
