Job DescriptionJob Summary for RN - MedSurg/Tele
- Facility:
- Large academic medical center (885 beds) in Winston-Salem, NC
- Level 1 Trauma, Chest Pain, and Stroke Center
- Unit:
- 20-bed Transitional Care/General MedSurg (split between 5A & 5B)
- Patient Ratio: 1 RN to 5 patients
- Patient Population:
- Transitional and general MedSurg patients (CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory issues, CIWA, wounds, infections, some general surgery)
- Experience/Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years recent MedSurg RN experience (travel experience required)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Skills Needed:
- Trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, wound vacs, drains
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Central line blood draws
- Non-titrating drips: Heparin, Lasix, Protonix (required); Cardizem & Amiodarone (preferred)
- Support Staff:
- 1 CNA per area, charge RN (could take patients), 24/7 phlebotomy, RT, hospitalist, and residents
- No unit receptionist/HUC
- Technology:
- EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing
- Bedside and central monitors
- Floating:
- May float within hospital as per scope of practice
- Orientation:
- NEO plus two on-unit orientation shifts
- Scheduling:
- 12-hour night shifts (6:30pm-7:00am)
- Every other weekend required
- 50% holiday coverage required
- RTO up to 7 days allowed
- Schedule set in 6-week cycles; travelers fill schedule gaps
- Overtime not permitted without special approval
- Other:
