Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in our elementary/middle school program. This teacher will create a structured, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes academic progress, communication skills, and social-emotional development tailored to each student’s unique needs and IEP goals.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with autism, aligned with state standards and student goals.

Deliver direct instruction in academic content, functional skills, communication, and social-emotional learning using evidence-based strategies.

Utilize structured teaching methods (e.g., TEACCH, ABA strategies, visual supports, task analysis, PECS) to support diverse learners.

Modify curriculum and assessments to ensure accessibility and progress for all students.

Provide explicit instruction in daily living skills, communication, behavior regulation, and social interactions as appropriate.

Collaborate with related service providers (SLPs, OTs, BCBAs, etc.), general education staff, and families to ensure a coordinated approach.

Manage student behavior through positive behavior supports and data-driven behavior intervention plans (BIPs).

Maintain accurate records, including progress monitoring, data collection, and IEP documentation.

Create a safe, sensory-friendly, and structured classroom environment that supports student regulation and learning.

Communicate regularly with families to foster partnership and consistency between school and home.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s preferred).

Experience working with students on the autism spectrum in school-based settings.

Strong understanding of IEP development, instructional strategies, and behavior management techniques.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills:
-
Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.

Familiarity with ABA principles, sensory integration strategies, and functional behavior assessments (FBAs).

Training in CPI, Safety-Care, or other de-escalation techniques.

Culturally responsive and trauma-informed teaching practices.

Bilingual or multilingual proficiency a plus.
