Job Title: Equipment Operator

Job Type: In-person

Location: Highlands Ranch, CO

Work Type: W2 – Permanent

Starting Pay and/or Pay Range: $28.00 – $35.00 per hour + Full Benefits

Job Summary:

The Equipment Operator will operate heavy machinery (such as boring machines) for construction or excavation projects in a safe and efficient manner. This role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, careful avoidance of utilities and obstacles, and consistent coordination with field supervisors to ensure that projects are completed on time and within specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment in compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.
  • Perform regular maintenance and care of assigned heavy equipment; complete all required documentation.
  • Safely drive, set up, operate, and break down equipment.
  • Operate heavy machinery near active utilities, ensuring safety and accuracy.
  • Understand and properly use shoring systems.
  • Rig and set structures safely.
  • Assist in other field activities as needed, including:
  • Placement of conduit in open trenches
  • Proofing conduits
  • Potholing existing utilities
  • Forming and pouring concrete
  • Placement of asphalt
  • Identify and avoid utilities, implementing all precautions to prevent strikes.
  • Communicate job details and progress with supervisors daily.
  • Conduct pre-operation walkarounds to verify all utilities are located and plan for safe operation.
  • Inspect and maintain job equipment daily.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules.
  • Work additional hours and/or weekends as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities.
  • Experience locating underground utilities preferred.
  • Familiarity with underground locate systems.
  • Ability to operate: asphalt roller, skid steer, backhoe, mini excavator, vacuum truck, bore machine, and similar equipment.
  • Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer equipment preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • CDL with tanker endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • DOT Medical Card required.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI safety standards.
  • Understanding of basic shoring methods.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
