Congressional School seeks a 7th and 8th Grade Math Teacher for late-April 2026 through the end of school (Early June 2026). The Math Teacher is responsible for teaching, motivating, inspiring, and assessing middle school students in mathematics. The Math Teacher is knowledgeable about the cognitive and social-emotional development of middle school children and possesses a firm understanding of advanced mathematics. In addition to the below duties and responsibilities, the Math Teacher will be positive, collaborative, innovative, and passionate.

Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and assessing a dynamic mathematics program for Preschool 8th Grade students and using a variety of methods, materials, and techniques used to teach mathematics. The Math Teacher will collaborate with faculty across the divisions of the School and provide feedback on best practices of reaching all learners. Working directly with students, the Math Teacher will assess students' mathematical skills for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback. The Math Teacher instructs, supervises, and inspires students in a supportive and positive climate that develops the skills and talents of each student.

The position begins on Monday, April 27, 2026 and concludes on Friday, June 12, 2026. The hired Math Teacher will "shadow" and collaborate with the current Math Teacher for 2-3 weeks and then will assume full responsibilities through June 12, 2026.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach math to middle school 7th and 8th grade students; the courses include: 7th grade Pre-Algebra Honors; 7th grade Algebra 1 Honors; 8th grade Algebra 1; 8th grade Geometry Honors
  • Collaborate with teachers to design and deliver innovative, challenging and age-appropriate math lessons to students.
  • Share and model best practices in teaching math
  • Provide information to parents about student performance
  • Perform divisional responsibilities expected of faculty (for example, supervising students outside of class times, attending faculty meetings, etc.)
  • Ensure proper supervision for the safety and well-being of all students.
  • Attend school events as needed and/or required
  • Actively support the School's vision, mission and core values

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics; preferably a Master's degree in mathematics, education, or related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching middle school mathematics, preferably in an independent school
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child development and educational practices
  • Strong initiative and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to work in a joyful, collegial, and collaborative environment.
