Orthodontic assistant will assist the doctor in the treatment of dentofacial irregularities and misaligned teeth. Duties include:
- Maintaining patient records: Tracking, updating, and keeping records of a patient's oral health history, treatment progress, and needs
- Assisting dentists: Helping with procedures, handling emergencies, and providing post-treatment instructions
- Cleaning and sanitizing equipment: Sterilizing equipment before each use, and cleaning and disinfecting tools, instruments, and patient areas
- Taking X-rays: Taking intraoral X-rays of a patient's mouth, or taking photographs of teeth
- Making adjustments: Making adjustments to braces and retainers
- Educating patients: Providing information on oral health, plaque control, and at-home care directions
