About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Manager of CNC Operations to oversee all CNC-related activities within the production facility. This role is responsible for planning, programming, scheduling, coordinating, and supervising daily CNC operations. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to drive productivity, quality, and safety across the CNC department.
This position ensures that production goals are met, equipment is maintained, operators are well-trained, and all CNC processes meet the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Supervision & Leadership
- Lead, manage, and support a team of CNC operators.
- Provide training, coaching, and performance evaluations to ensure high productivity and quality.
- Cross-train team members to increase flexibility and meet production demands.
- Manage third-party contractors, outlining expectations, KPIs, deliverables, and timelines.
- Maintain regular communication with contractors through calls, emails, and project management tools.
- Conduct ongoing performance reviews and adjust workflows to meet goals.
Production Planning & CNC Operations
- Program, set up, and operate multiple CNC machines as needed.
- Ensure machines run efficiently, safely, and accurately while meeting all production specifications.
- Develop and execute detailed daily and weekly production schedules.
- Collaborate with Tech, Fabrication, and other departments for smooth workflow.
- Assign work and set production goals for CNC operators.
- Allocate labor resources based on schedule demands and operational complexity.
- Use computerized measuring equipment and calibrate tooling for optimal performance.
Quality Control
- Implement and enforce quality control procedures to ensure all products meet required tolerances.
- Conduct inspections and oversee quality checks on finished products.
- Address product quality issues and perform Root Cause Analyses when defects occur.
- Maintain documentation of inspections, test results, and deviations.
- Ensure operators conduct proper pre- and post-inspections, including Speed Label sign-offs.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance quality and reduce rework.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Promote a culture focused on safety and continuous improvement.
- Ensure all CNC employees receive proper safety training and follow all protocols.
- Enforce PPE usage, correct unsafe practices, and investigate incidents when necessary.
- Conduct regular inspections of the CNC area and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
- Establish and manage cleaning schedules for daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
Procurement & Inventory
- Order necessary supplies within budget according to company purchasing guidelines.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and train the team on waste-reduction principles.
- Manage inventory of tooling and consumables.
- Apply lean manufacturing practices to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
Equipment Maintenance
- Oversee maintenance and preventive maintenance of all CNC machinery.
- Coordinate routine servicing to avoid breakdowns and maximize machine performance.
Process Improvement & Collaboration
- Identify areas for operational improvement and implement best practices.
- Apply lean principles to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Maintain strong communication with Material Handling, Saw Operations, Fabrication, Template, and Tech departments to ensure alignment and workflow continuity.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in CNC operations, programming, and shop management.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to train and mentor teams.
- Technical proficiency with CNC machinery, computerized measuring tools, and tooling calibration.
- Strong understanding of quality control, safety standards, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
