Data Literacy Instructional Specialist II (Contract/Temp) — Power BI Enablement (Fully Remote)
Type: Temporary / Contract
Location: Fully Remote

We’re seeking an experienced Data Literacy Instructional Specialist to support the enterprise-wide launch of Power BI. This is a content-first role focused on designing and developing high-quality learning experiences that enable both analytics and non-analytics professionals—from data consumers to aspiring Power BI developers—to use Power BI effectively in their day-to-day work.

You’ll partner closely with the Data Literacy Program team, project leadership, and Power BI / analytics subject matter experts to align learning content to the program’s strategy and adoption goals.

What you’ll do

Learning strategy (approx. 20%)

  • Develop a thorough understanding of learning objectives and determine how to leverage design and technology to deliver outcomes.

  • Identify opportunities for new Data Literacy Program initiatives and tool-specific training.

  • Represent/advance data literacy practices through networking, workgroups, and professional engagement (as applicable).

Program operations (approx. 20%)

  • Own the delivery and lifecycle of one pillar of work within the Data Literacy Program, including impact metrics, ROI reporting, and executive summary development.

  • Assess existing learning assets (internal and external) for assigned topics; expand and mature content into sustainable resources that scale across learner personas.

  • Support program awareness and adoption through marketing events and internal communications (speaking engagements, blog posts, and other channels).

Content development & delivery (approx. 60%)

  • Conduct learner discovery (user interviews, feedback loops) to understand needs, pain points, and skill gaps.

  • Design and develop learning products (courses, curriculum, modules, persona-based learning pathways) aligned to adult learning and instructional design best practices.

  • Translate Power BI and BI concepts into clear, engaging, accessible instructional materials for multiple personas and technical levels.

  • Partner with SMEs across the enterprise to develop, revise, validate, and maintain training content.

  • Facilitate virtual trainings regularly (and occasional in-person sessions only if required by the program).

  • Pilot-test learning products and iterate based on evaluations and learner feedback.

  • Build trust with learners and create an inclusive environment that supports growth throughout the data literacy journey.

Required skills & experience

  • 2+ years in training, instructional design, classroom instruction, eLearning, curriculum development, or related work.

  • 4+ years in data and analytics (e.g., data analytics, statistical programming, data integration, data management, biostatistics, software development, data science) or equivalent education/experience.

  • 1+ year using visual/instructional design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Articulate Storyline, Captivate, Vyond (or similar).

  • Strong facilitation/presentation skills; comfortable leading workshops for large, diverse audiences.

  • Excellent written communication, organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and modern digital workflows.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of varying backgrounds and perspectives.

Preferred

  • 3+ years training / instructional design experience.

  • 5+ years data/analytics experience.

  • Experience implementing and evaluating training programs at scale (corporate, university, organization-wide).

  • Familiarity with instructional design methodologies, eLearning strategies, LMS practices, and computer-based training development.

Education

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in a computational, mathematical, science-related, or data-related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Preferred: Master’s degree in business, education, data science, computational/mathematical/science-related field, or public health.

Certifications (preferred)

  • Instructional Design Certification

  • User Experience (UX) Certification

Power BI & Microsoft ecosystem (highly desired)

  • Deep, hands-on experience with Power BI and enterprise adoption.

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 integration (e.g., Excel, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive) and the Power Platform.

  • Experience supporting enterprise BI rollouts, self-service analytics, and user adoption.
