Job Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join an independent pharmacy in East Sacramento that is on the cutting edge of retail pharmac services. We are looking for individual(s) who are interested in working in a community pharmacy setting as a goal. This is not a position for individual(s) who are simply looking for a job. The Staff Pharmacist is a front-line position serving as a representative of the business providing the products and services offered by the company. The Staff Pharmacist will creatively deploy technology and human resources to accomplish the objectives of the organization which include dispensing drugs prescribed by providers and provide information about medications and their use to patients, advise providers on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications, provide point of care testing, immunizations, and pharmacist prescribed therapies where applicable. Duties are not limited to those listed as the position has a wide scope of duties at times dependent on customer needs and organization priorities.

You must be able to quickly assess situations and make prioritization decisions rapidly as it relates to what order functions must be completed to ensure efficient workflow. You must have the ability to assess verbal and non-verbal communications with customers and team members to determine the correct path toward completion of tasks and resolution of issues. You must be a team player and have a natural ability and willingness to assume responsibility for assisting in all areas of business operations. You must have the ability to deploy and manage human and technology resources across the organization to obtain company objectives.

Work Hours:

Store hours are Monday through Friday 9am-6pm, Saturday 9am-1pm, Closed Sunday. Working hours will be assigned based on Part-time or Full-time employment and will float across the open hours of the business to ensure adequate coverage for the demands of the business. Working hours will not solely be during the open business hours as duties will require employees to be on the clock prior to and after store business hours.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct daily pharmacy operations
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory aspects of the pharmacy
  • Performing administrative duties
  • Assists in managing inventory and purchasing
  • Precepts pharmacy interns
  • Reports to Pharmacy Manager/PIC and pharmacy owners

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) for the pharmacy
  • Reviews prescriptions to ensure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability. Provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
  • Assesses the identity, strength, or purity of medications. Compounds and dispense medications prescribed by providers by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or overseeing these activities.
  • Maintains records such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, and controlled substance records.
  • Plans, implements, and maintains procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals according to policy and legal requirements to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
  • Provides specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, high blood pressure, HIV and STI treatment and prevention, travel health.
  • Offers health promotion and prevention activities by, for example, training people to use devices such as blood pressure and diabetes monitors.
  • Advises customers on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment, and health care supplies.
  • Collaborates with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics.
  • Analyzes prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.
  • Orders and purchases pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, and drugs, maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly.
  • Performs point of care testing, interprets results, and prescribes medications on patients for all permissible disease testing as allowed by California law under Pucci’s collaborative practice agreement.
  • Performs immunizations and other therapeutic injections.
  • Identifies strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for the organization.
  • Other related duties as assigned by senior leadership and company owners

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong patient service skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of chemistry and specific drug interactions.
  • Strong knowledge of medical and biological terminology.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to balance competing priorities.

Education and Experience:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree
  • California Pharmacist License
  • CPR Certification
  • Immunization Certificate

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
