Job Description

Build the tools that build what’s next. Imagine launching a high-volume program where your progressive die design—with smart sensors and streamlined stations—cuts scrap, boosts throughput, and delights a demanding customer. That’s the kind of impact you’ll make here.

Where you’ll work: Mendota Heights, MN (Greater Saint Paul) | Department: Engineering / Tool & Die | Type: Full-time

Your mission

Transform customer requirements and RFQs into reliable, efficient tooling. Lead from concept to production support, ensuring every die and stage tool is engineered for quality, cost, and repeatability.

How you’ll do it

  • Develop concepts for punch press tooling—from temporary stage tooling to complex progressive dies—tuned to production volumes and specifications.
  • Generate 3D assemblies, drawings, and flat blank development using SolidWorks/LogoPress (Cadkey experience is a plus).
  • Prototype and test to validate function, tolerances, and design intent.
  • Partner with programmers, EDM, CNC, press brake, quality, and toolroom to move designs smoothly into production.
  • Select materials and standard components that balance longevity, performance, and cost.
  • Oversee fabrication, approve requisitions, and lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Iterate designs based on testing results, customer feedback, and engineering clarifications.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation for design, testing, and production specifications.

What you bring

  • 5–7 years of hands-on tool & die design in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks/LogoPress and expert blueprint reading with GD&T.
  • Process awareness across machining, stamping, and laser cutting.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, organization, and clear communication.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement culture.

Preferred credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering—or equivalent (HS diploma plus a technical degree).
  • Experience in tooling design, prototyping, and production support.
  • Knowledge of materials selection, tooling components, and manufacturing methods.
  • Practical experience building dies.

Physical expectations

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move frequently during the workday.
  • Lift up to 25 lbs regularly; up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Good vision, depth perception, and manual dexterity for detail work and inspections.

Growth and impact

Work in a collaborative, stable environment where your designs go from screen to press—and where your technical expertise deepens with each program. Your tooling drives precision manufacturing and customer success.
