Long Island Select Healthcare Inc. (LISH) is a comprehensive network of community health centers. We are a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides Article 16 and 28 clinic services at 8 locations across Suffolk County, New York. We are a multi-specialty healthcare provider caring for our community through Primary and Specialty Medical Care, Dental, Behavioral Health, Audiology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology. We currently provide care to over 7,000 patients and have an annual operating revenue of $22m.

About the Role:
As a Dental Hygienist at Long Island Select Healthcare Inc., you will play a crucial role in promoting oral health and providing exceptional patient care. Your primary responsibility will be to perform thorough dental cleanings, ensuring that patients maintain optimal oral hygiene. You will also educate patients on proper dental care techniques and the importance of regular dental visits. Additionally, you will assist in the application of preventive treatments, such as fluoride and sealants, to help protect patients' teeth. Ultimately, your efforts will contribute to the overall health and well-being of our patients, fostering a positive dental experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid dental hygiene license in the state of New York.
- Associate's degree in dental hygiene or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with pediatric patients.
- Experience working with the IDD population.
Responsibilities:
1. Cleaning and polishing of teeth
2. Instructing patients, oral hygiene habits
3. Works chair side with dentist as needed during examination and treatments
4. Performs X-rays
5. Sets-up and cleans-up exam room for treatments as directed by dentist
6. Disinfect and sterilize reusable medical instruments
7. Makes molds for crowns and dental prosthetics
8. Removes sutures
9. Polishes fillings and other metal restorations
10. Takes and records medical history and medication lists
11. Documents treatment and patient secondary diagnosis
12. Schedules dental appointments in practice management system
13. Reviews service referrals, as needed
14. Periodically reviews medical charts
15. Means and ability to travel between clinics.
Skills:
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, Word), as well as Practice Management and Electronic Medical Record software – eClinicalWorks a plus).
Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to work as part of a health care team; ability to embrace role in the customer service equation; ability to multitask to also handle some of the functions of the Dental Assistant during absence/peak patient flow periods.
