Role: Chief Financial Officer

Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid – Onsite once per month)

Benefits Provided: generous health, retirement, and insurance plans are standard in such associations

Salary Base: $250000 - $300000 / Year (Base)

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

We are partnering with a well-established, mission-driven organization to identify a seasoned Chief Financial Officer to lead financial strategy, operations, and governance.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 10 years of experience operating in a senior-level finance leadership role, with demonstrated accountability at the executive and board level.

Requirements

· 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience

· Must come industry experience out of: Associations (preferred )Nonprofit organizations (secondary

· Educational (may be considered)

· Background within associations, nonprofit organizations, or education-adjacent environments strongly preferred

· Proven success overseeing organizational budgets in excess of $30M,


Core Responsibilities

· Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Lead long-term financial planning, forecasting, and modeling
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on financial strategy, risk management, and sustainability
  • Present financial results and recommendations to executive leadership and governing boards

· Financial Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and monthly close
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations (including Form 990), and multi-state tax requirements
  • Manage the annual audit process and relationships with external auditors and financial institutions
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and financial policies

· Budgeting, Reporting & Transparency

  • Lead the annual operating and capital budgeting processes
  • Deliver timely, accurate, and accessible financial reporting
  • Promote fiscal transparency and financial literacy across departments

· Investment & Cash Management

  • Oversee cash flow management and short-term investments
  • Monitor and manage investment portfolios in alignment with board-approved policies

· Team Leadership & Systems Oversight

  • Lead and develop a high-performing finance team
  • Oversee and optimize financial systems and reporting tools
