Metuchen Christian Academy is seeking a qualified Part-time Registered Nurse (RN) to provide school nursing services to our students through the New Jersey Chapter 226 Nonpublic School Nursing Program.
The nurse will work on-site at Metuchen Christian Academy and will serve as an integral part of our school community, providing compassionate, dependable, and experienced nursing care and health services to eligible students.
The School Nurse plays an important role in maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing school environment. As a Christian religious school, we are looking for an individual who will respect and support our school's faith-based mission, values, policies, and commitment to caring for the whole child.
Important Employment Information: This position is being recruited in connection with the New Jersey Chapter 226 Nonpublic School Nursing Program. The selected RN will provide nursing services at Metuchen Christian Academy. Metuchen Christian Academy is not the employer for this position. The position will be staffed through the service arrangement established with the local public school district under the Chapter 226 program. The employing entity and applicable compensation, benefits, and employment terms will be communicated to candidates before employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first aid, basic nursing care, and health assessment to students and staff as needed.
- Evaluate student illnesses and injuries and determine appropriate next steps.
- Contact parents/guardians regarding illness, injury, or health concerns when appropriate.
- Respond to medical emergencies and follow established emergency procedures.
- Administer authorized medications in accordance with school policies and applicable requirements.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
- Review required student health documentation and notify administration and families of missing or updated records.
- Assist with monitoring immunization and health documentation requirements.
- Maintain documentation for students with allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders, and other health needs.
- Help develop and follow individualized health and emergency care plans when necessary.
- Maintain and organize the nurse's office, first-aid supplies, and emergency medical materials.
- Monitor medication expiration dates and medical supplies.
- Participate in school safety and emergency preparedness procedures.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with students, parents, teachers, aides, and administration.
- Provide health education and guidance to students and staff when appropriate.
- Maintain student privacy and confidentiality with parents at all times.
- Follow applicable school policies and state health and safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
- Previous pediatric, school nursing, family practice, urgent care, or related nursing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of childhood illnesses, allergies, medication administration, first aid, and emergency response.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to respond calmly and appropriately during emergencies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with school administration and staff.
- Experience working with elementary and/or middle school-aged children is strongly preferred.

Schedule
Part-Time Position
Schedule and weekly hours will be established based on the needs of the school. Candidates should have dependable availability during assigned school hours and flexibility when school health needs arise.
