Overview

This role involves assessing, treating, and managing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions related to the cardiopulmonary system for patients of all ages, including neonates, children, adolescents, and adults. The candidate must exhibit expertise in various respiratory care modalities, which may encompass oxygen therapy, breathing treatments, airway clearance, blood gas analysis, and both non-invasive and invasive ventilator management. There may also be responsibilities in the sleep lab.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patients to receive, review, interpret, and execute prescribed orders for respiratory and cardiopulmonary treatments and tests. Ensure accurate documentation of patient evaluations, interventions, and progress in the electronic medical record, along with timely charge submissions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans. Develop and implement respiratory care strategies in collaboration with the healthcare team to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Administer, set up, titrate, maintain, and document supplemental oxygen, aerosol therapy, airway clearance techniques, and ventilator management, including preparation and administration of respiratory medications.
  • Ensure airway patency through various suctioning methods (tracheal, nasal, and oral). Respond to respiratory or cardiac emergencies by performing CPR and providing emergency airway care.
  • Conduct arterial and capillary punctures, manage blood gas samples, and operate the Blood Gas analyzer.
  • Assist in Pulmonary Rehabilitation by providing exercises and education to participants.
  • Support outpatient clinic operations as needed, including scheduling sleep studies and obtaining necessary authorizations.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function tests, stress exercises, electrocardiograms, electroencephalograms, oximetry, Holter monitoring, and cardiac event monitoring.
  • Train clinical staff on the use of respiratory therapy and EKG equipment.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of policies and procedures, maintain quality assurance records, and manage equipment and supply orders.

Required Education, Licenses/Certifications, or Experience

  • Active Respiratory Therapist license from the state of practice upon hire.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) upon hire, or
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) upon hire.


Preferred Education, Licenses/Certifications, or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.
