Position Summary
As a Geotechnical Engineer IV‐PE, you will play a strategic leadership role within the geotechnical engineering team, bringing deep technical expertise and a Professional Engineer (PE) license to complex projects. You will manage geotechnical investigations, perform advanced modeling, produce high-quality design deliverables, and guide junior team members through technical mentorship and oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform advanced geotechnical site investigations, including soil/rock sampling, laboratory testing, and in-situ analysis.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical design reports and deliverables on foundation design, earth retention, slope stability, and excavation support systems.
- Conduct geotechnical modeling and analysis using software tools like PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance, fostering professional growth, and ensuring quality of deliverables.
- Oversee field and laboratory operations to ensure safety, compliance, and technical accuracy throughout project execution.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—structural, civil, environmental, and construction professionals—to integrate geotechnical recommendations into broader project designs.
- Advise clients, contractors, and project managers on geotechnical risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Independently lead complex geotechnical projects, serving as a subject-matter expert with minimal oversight.
- Ensure technical practices align with local, state, federal codes, and industry standards.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 7+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.
- Proficient in geotechnical software (PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience, etc.), field and lab testing protocols, geotechnical modeling, and advanced foundation system design.
- Strong analytical, technical writing, communication, and leadership skills. Capable of leading multidisciplinary collaboration and managing multiple projects.
- Experience in urban infrastructure, excavation support, or underground project environments, particularly relevant to NYC-based assignments.
