Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years Stepdown RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A skilled registered nurse is sought to provide patient care in a Stepdown/ Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting. This contract position offers primarily night shifts with a 3x12-hour schedule, with potential flexibility for a 4x12-hour schedule if preferred. The role requires at least one year of recent experience in Stepdown or related units, supported by certification in BLS and NIH; ACLS certification is preferred. Candidates must hold an active nursing license in Illinois.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced cardiac, neurological, respiratory, and post-operative care in a telemetry or neuro stepdown environment.
- Monitor and interpret dysrhythmias and manage cardiac drips without titration.
- Perform specialized procedures including sheath removal, tracheostomy care, central and peripheral line management, and blood product administration.
- Deliver care for post-surgical patients, including orthopedic trauma, plastic surgery, and neurosurgical cases.
- Utilize telemetry monitoring and participate in rapid response teams as required.
- Adhere to isolation precautions and wound care protocols.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to ensure emergency response and patient safety.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year experience in a stepdown/PCU setting.
- Certifications: BLS and NIH mandatory; ACLS preferred.
- Experience with telemetry, cardiac and neurological patient management.
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic charting system preferred.
- Prior experience in a teaching hospital and Level I trauma center desirable.
- Ability to float as necessary between units within scope of practice.
Schedule:
- Night shifts: 3x12-hour (18:45 - 07:15), with alternating weekends.
- Flexibility to discuss block scheduling with manager.
