Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Position Description
We are seeking a certified Sign Language Interpreter to provide prehensive interpreting services to deaf and hard of hearing students through our established educational interpreting program. This role involves working with a diverse student population of 48-58 individuals across elementary, middle, and high school grade levels while maintaining 36.5-37 hours of weekly interpreting services and preparation activities.
Your interpreting responsibilities will enpass facilitating clear munication during academic instruction, supporting student participation in classroom discussions and group activities, and ensuring access to all educational content across various subject areas. The position requires strong American Sign Language skills, cultural petency, and the ability to maintain professional interpreter standards while advocating for optimal munication conditions in educational settings.
Interpreting Responsibilities
As an Educational Sign Language Interpreter, you will provide real-time interpreting services during classroom instruction, facilitate munication between deaf and hard of hearing students and their hearing peers and teachers, and support student access during testing situations and educational assessments. Your duties include preparing specialized vocabulary for uping lessons, coordinating with educational teams to ensure proper positioning and lighting for visual access, and maintaining strict confidentiality regarding all student and educational information.
You'll interpret during parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, and school assemblies, participate in team discussions regarding student munication needs and acmodations, and collaborate with deaf and hard of hearing education teachers to support prehensive student services. Additional responsibilities include documenting interpreting services provided, engaging in ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance interpreting skills, and staying current with educational terminology and practices across multiple academic disciplines.
Required Credentials
Candidates must hold a minimum 3.5 EIPA score and possess 2 years of documented interpreting experience in educational environments. Fluency in American Sign Language and English is essential, with demonstrated proficiency in simultaneous and consecutive interpreting techniques, understanding of educational processes, and knowledge of professional interpreter ethics and role boundaries.
Essential qualifications include familiarity with deaf culture and munication approaches, ability to work effectively with students across various developmental stages, understanding of classroom dynamics and educational terminology, and strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with teachers, students, and families. Flexibility in work assignments and fort with both traditional and innovative educational delivery methods are important for success in this role.
Preferred Qualifications
We highly prefer candidates with 4.0 EIPA scores, Written EIPA certification, and RID/NIC certification including successful pletion of written examinations. Additional valued qualifications include experience interpreting across multiple educational levels, background with various munication modalities used by deaf and hard of hearing students, and familiarity with assistive technology applications in educational settings.
