Barista/Cafe Server (Saturdays)

Job DescriptionSalary: $17 -$18.50 DOE
The Barista is responsible for delivering an elevated caf experience at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community. This role combines expert beverage preparation with refined hospitality, ensuring residents and guests receive attentive, personalized service in a warm and welcoming environment. The Barista prepares specialty coffee and tea beverages, maintains caf presentation standards, and supports the overall cafe experience through professional and engaging service.
Responsibilities
- Prepare espresso-based beverages, specialty coffees, teas, and cold beverages to established quality standards
- Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and related equipment
- Ensure consistency in beverage recipes, presentation, and portioning
- Monitor product quality and freshness throughout service
- Provide gracious, resident-focused service aligned with community hospitality standards
- Greet residents by name when possible and anticipate preferences
- Maintain a clean, inviting, and organized caf environment
- Handle transactions accurately using POS systems
- Restock caf supplies, pastries, and retail items
- Maintain sanitation standards in accordance with health regulations
- Monitor and record temperatures as required
- Support light food preparation
- Preventing cross-contamination by following recipes and sanitary requirements.
- Highly alert of allergens that residents may have and adjusting to regulations to address allergies.
Qualifications
- Internal desire to learn more, grow, and evolve with the caf team.
- Previous barista or specialty coffee experience preferred but not required.
- Experience in hospitality, restaurant, or upscale service environments is preferred.
- Entry level knowledge of espresso and coffee skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic math and POS proficiency
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
- Ability to work in a fast-paced service environment
