Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years OR RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Deliver critical patient-centered care as an RN First Assist in a dynamic operating room environment. This contract opportunity calls for a skilled and highly autonomous Registered Nurse with demonstrated expertise assisting in advanced surgical procedures, particularly with Da Vinci robotics, across a variety of specialties such as spine, orthopedics, general, GYN, urology, vascular, and ENT. Adaptability, clinical judgment, and strong communication are essential to ensure positive patient outcomes and effective collaboration with surgical teams.

Schedule/Hours

  • Day shifts preferred at end of week; flexible 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts available
  • Call expectation: 1 weekday per week and 1 weekend shift twice every 6 weeks
  • OR is closed on national holidays (call may be required)

Qualifications

  • Active RN license in Virginia (or compact state)
  • BLS certification required; RNFA certification required prior to submission
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Surgical First Assist (independent Da Vinci experience essential)
  • Proven ability to scrub preferred; prior travel nursing assignment experience advantageous
  • Successful completion of all required credentialing processes

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized care plans for surgical patients
  • Operate as first assist, supporting surgeons intraoperatively and managing perioperative patient care
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams for optimal patient safety and satisfaction
  • Prepare, operate, and maintain surgical equipment including Da Vinci robotics and microscopes
  • Provide pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care including patient assessments and discharge instructions
  • Support the surgical team with anticipation of needs, accurate record-keeping, and upholding aseptic technique
  • Train and mentor other staff as needed; participate in ongoing professional development
