Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Traveling Superintendent to oversee and drive successful commercial construction projects across multiple job sites. The Traveling Superintendent will travel between projects to manage on-site operations, enforce safety and quality standards, coordinate subcontractors and crews, maintain project schedules and budgets, and ensure client satisfaction. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to manage complex schedules while working independently in a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to and manage multiple commercial construction sites on a scheduled rotation, ensuring consistent on-site leadership and continuity across projects.
  • Supervise, mentor, and coordinate on-site crews and subcontractors to achieve productivity, quality, and safety objectives.
  • Oversee daily site operations including layout, scheduling, resource allocation, and sequencing of work to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Enforce safety standards and company safety programs; conduct regular site safety meetings, inspections, and incident follow-up to ensure OSHA and company compliance.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and change orders; communicate design intent and scope adjustments to trades and project teams.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, time sheets, logs, RFIs, submittals, and progress documentation using company project management systems.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, estimators, and superintendents to plan manpower needs, procure materials, and manage long-lead items to minimize schedule impacts.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and quality control processes; address non-conforming work and implement corrective actions to meet contract standards.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, enforce contract requirements, and facilitate resolution of disputes or delays.
  • Prepare and communicate regular progress updates to clients, owners, architects, and internal stakeholders; assist in turnover, punch lists, and project closeout activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent in commercial construction, with a proven track record of managing multiple projects or sites.
  • Demonstrated experience traveling between job sites and managing remote or rotating site responsibilities; willingness to travel regularly and stay overnight as required.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, building codes, contract documents, and commercial construction sequencing.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate crews, coordinate subcontractors, and maintain a professional on-site presence.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and shop drawings; experience managing RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
  • Familiarity with construction management software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid, Viewpoint) and scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification (or willingness to obtain) and current first aid/CPR certification preferred.
