Job Summary

The Pantry by Emily's Table is seeking a reliable and diligent Part-Time Dishwasher to join our kitchen team. As a gourmet bodega, we are committed to providing high-quality food and an exceptional customer experience, which starts with a clean and organized workspace. The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for all dishes, cutlery, glassware, kitchen equipment, and work areas. This role is essential to the smooth operation of our fast-paced kitchen environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Dishwashing and Sanitation

  • Operate and maintain the dish machine efficiently, ensuring proper water temperature and chemical levels.
  • Wash and sanitize all dishes, utensils, pots, pans, glassware, and kitchen equipment by hand or using the dish machine.
  • Scrape and pre-rinse food from dishes before loading them into the rack.
  • Ensure a constant supply of clean dishes and utensils is available for cooks and front-of-house staff.
  • Store clean dishes and equipment in designated areas correctly and promptly.

Kitchen Maintenance and Organization

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area, including floors, walls, and shelving.
  • Regularly empty and clean garbage bins and recycling containers in the kitchen and dish area.
  • Assist with general kitchen cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and cleaning prep surfaces, as directed by the Kitchen Manager.
  • Break down, clean, and reassemble the dish machine at the end of each shift.
  • Assist in maintaining clean dry-storage, refrigeration, and freezer areas.

Team Support and Safety

  • Adhere strictly to all local and state health, sanitation, and safety regulations.
  • Report any maintenance needs, malfunctioning equipment, or safety hazards to the Kitchen Manager immediately.
  • Assist kitchen staff with basic food prep tasks (e.g., washing produce, peeling vegetables) during slow periods, as needed.
  • Handle cleaning chemicals safely and according to established guidelines, utilizing proper protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed for a part-time role.
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced kitchen or food service environment is a plus, but not required-we will train the right candidate.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to take direction and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of basic sanitation and food safety practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements, including bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Must be able to work in a hot, damp, and noisy environment.
