Job Title: Youth Services and Programming Librarian
Name:
Reports to: Asst. Director
Position Summary: Under administrative supervision, directs the activities of youth services, Youth Services Marketing Promotions, coordinates and leads Youth Services programming, etc.
Duties/Examples of Work
1. Plans, organizes and conducts children and teen library services and programs.
2. Advises the library director in regard to policies and procedures in area of responsibility; writes reports and recommendations; implements directives and policies.
3. Develops, selects, and maintains youth library materials collection within budget parameters.
4. Assists in library technology planning, implementation, and management.
5. Advocates and confers with community groups in an advisory capacity.
6. Conducts library tours, presents programs to local groups as requested, and performs other outreach activities, both on-site and off-site, for library patrons.
7. Promotes library services through flyers, news releases, and other types of print and digital.
8. Engages in collaborative programming with other library departments, outside organizations, and agencies.
9. Provides reader’s advisory, reference, and other patron assistance services.
10. Performs circulation procedures, checking materials in/out, registering clients, collecting fines, etc.
11. Compiles statistical information on area of service.
12. Performs light housekeeping.
13. Performs other related work as assigned by the Library Director.

1. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patrons.
2. Ability to maintain confidentiality of library patron information.
3. Ability to gather statistics, analyze information and write reports.
4. Ability to understand and apply library policies and procedures to library operations.
5. Ability to use computer software and manage computerized files.
6. Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work, respond to varied/changing work demands, and make decisions as required.
7. Mobility: travel to programs, training, and meetings outside the library.
8. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationship with the public, peers and supervisors.
9. Willingness to maintain skills through active participation in appropriate continuing education activities.
10. Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
Physical Demands of the Position
1. Ability to work in confined spaces.

3. Far vision at 20 feet or further; near vision at 20 inches or less.
4. Fingering: keyboarding, writing, filing, sorting, shelving and processing.
5. Handling: processing, picking up and shelving books.
6. Lifting and carrying: 50 pounds or less.
7. Pushing and pulling: objects weighing 300-400 pounds on wheels.
8. Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
9. Talking and hearing; use of the telephone.

9. Time management: set priorities in order to meet assignment deadlines.

Equipment Used
Computer, audiovisual equipment, book truck, calculator, game consoles, copy/fax machine, telephone, library automation system, microfilm/fiche reader, telephone, e-readers, and their related software.
Education and Experience
1. Two years of study at an accredited college, university or technical school.
2. Management and supervisory responsibility or two years of progressively more responsible library management experience.
