Role Overview:
Our client is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design of low voltage switchboards and panelboards. This is a hands-on role suited for someone who enjoys both technical design work and guiding junior team members.
This is also a great opportunity for someone looking to step into a senior-level role while continuing to stay closely involved in the engineering work itself. The team is open to candidates relocating to the Charleston area.
Key Responsibilities:

Design low voltage switchboards and panelboards in compliance with industry standards

Develop detailed 3D sheet metal components and large-scale assemblies (150+ BOM items)

Create wiring diagrams including PLCs, relays, breakers, and control components

Produce and interpret technical drawings including one-line diagrams, layouts, and front views

Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering teams, and external vendors to ensure design accuracy

Support the full design lifecycle, ensuring adherence to internal standards and processes

Mentor and guide junior engineers as needed
Qualifications:
Required:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related field)

4–8 years of experience in designing switchboards, panelboards, or similar power distribution systems

Strong proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (Autodesk preferred)

Solid understanding of electrical systems and components
-
Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Preferred:
-
Experience with UL891, UL67, UL508A, or UL1558 standards
-
Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC)
-
Experience sizing conductors and overcurrent protection devices (OCPDs)
-
Knowledge of control circuits and electrical logic systems
