Job Description

The Welder performs a wide range of welding and fabrication tasks to support the maintenance, repair, and construction of industrial equipment and components. This role uses multiple welding processes and tools, interprets technical drawings, and follows strict safety and quality standards while completing assigned projects and other related tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, general arrangement drawings, and sub-component detail drawings to determine job requirements.
  • Perform MIG, arc, TIG, and flux core welding on a variety of materials and components.
  • Maintain, repair, rebuild, and fabricate parts as required for all types of industrial equipment.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance inspections, diagnose equipment problems, perform necessary repairs, and report findings to supervision.
  • Lay out, fit, and assemble components, including performing basic pipefitting functions when required.
  • Select appropriate welding equipment, including torch, torch tip, filler rod, and flux based on welding charts, material type, and thickness.
  • Position and clamp workpieces together or assemble them in jigs or fixtures to prepare for welding.
  • Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions while maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Examine welds for bead size, appearance, and conformance to specifications and quality standards.
  • Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes as needed to restore structural integrity.
  • Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, and spatter to achieve required finish and tolerances.
  • Use measuring tools such as tape measures and apply shop math to ensure accurate layout and fabrication.
  • Follow all plant, state, and federal safety regulations and general work rules, including proper lockout procedures and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools and equipment with care.
  • Perform other related tasks and miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervision.

Essential Skills

  • Certified Welder with the ability to perform MIG, arc, TIG, and flux core welding.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a metal fabrication environment or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to obtain a D14.1 certification at a G1–G4 position within 30 days of hire.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and weld symbols.
  • Working knowledge of applicable manufacturers and industry standards, including CMAA, HMI, ANSI, and OSHA.
  • Ability to weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Capability to lift or pull a minimum of 50 pounds as part of daily duties.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills to document work and coordinate with team members.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and planning skills to troubleshoot issues and sequence work effectively.
  • Excellent math skills and overall PC literacy, including use of Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude for working with industrial equipment and components.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and disciplined, with the ability to multi-task in a production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Military experience, trade school, or technical school training in welding or related fields preferred.
  • Experience with structural welding and flux core arc welding (FCAW).
  • Ability to use tape measures, perform shop math, and apply fabrication techniques accurately.
  • Comfort working with general arrangement and sub-component detail drawings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and support continuous improvement efforts.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brookpark, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
